Consider the size of your kitchen area. Leave at least three feet on each side of the table. Think about whether a rectangular, square or round table would fit your space best.
Your table needs to allow for the number of diners you want to seat comfortably and still leave enough room for to walk around it. Measure table-to-wall clearance. Measure the space around the room. Leave 42-48″ between your table and the walls or other furniture.
If you don’t need a large table now, but need one for special events or anticipate your needs may grow in the future, choose a dining table with a removable leaf.
Who Will Be Using the Table
Will you use it for just family meals? Or will you entertain as well? How many people will regularly sit down there? Each person requires about 24″ of width so they can comfortably eat and avoid bumping elbows. Its important to find the balance between form and function.
